Migrate to a Password Manager

Already using another password manager or your browser's built-in password storage? Here's how to switch to AmnPass.

Before You Start

  1. Create your AmnPass account at app.amnpass.com
  2. Choose a strong master password (see our guide)
  3. Have your old password manager ready to export

From Another Password Manager

Export from Your Current Manager

Most password managers let you export to CSV. Here's where to find it:

  • LastPass: Advanced Options → Export → CSV
  • 1Password: File → Export → CSV
  • Bitwarden: Tools → Export Vault → CSV
  • Dashlane: My Account → Security Settings → Export Data

CSV Files Are Unencrypted

Your exported CSV contains all your passwords in plain text. Keep it safe and delete it immediately after importing. Don't email it or upload it anywhere.

Import into AmnPass

  1. Log into your AmnPass account
  2. Go to Settings → Import
  3. Select your old password manager or choose "CSV"
  4. Upload your export file
  5. Review the import preview
  6. Click Import to add all passwords

From Browser Passwords

Chrome

  1. Go to chrome://settings/passwords
  2. Click the three dots menu next to "Saved Passwords"
  3. Select "Export passwords"
  4. Import the CSV into AmnPass

Firefox

  1. Open about:logins
  2. Click the three dots menu
  3. Select "Export Logins"
  4. Import the CSV into AmnPass

Safari

  1. Open Preferences → Passwords
  2. Select all entries (Cmd+A)
  3. Right-click → Export Selected Passwords
  4. Import the CSV into AmnPass

After Import: Cleanup

Delete the Export File

Immediately delete the CSV file you exported. Empty your trash too. This file contains all your passwords unencrypted.

Review Your Passwords

Migration is a great time to audit your passwords:

  • Delete accounts you no longer use
  • Identify reused passwords and generate new unique ones
  • Update weak passwords
  • Add 2FA to important accounts

Disable Browser Password Saving

Once your passwords are in AmnPass, disable your browser's built-in password manager to avoid confusion:

  • Chrome: Settings → Passwords → Turn off "Offer to save passwords"
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Logins and Passwords
  • Safari: Preferences → AutoFill → Uncheck user names and passwords

Delete from Old Manager

Once you've verified your passwords are safely in AmnPass, delete them from your old password manager and close that account.

Take Your Time

You don't have to migrate everything at once. Start with your most important accounts and gradually move the rest as you use them.

Gradual Migration Option

If bulk import feels overwhelming, try gradual migration:

  1. Start fresh with AmnPass
  2. Each time you log into a site, save the password to AmnPass
  3. Use this as an opportunity to generate new, strong passwords
  4. Over a few weeks, all your active accounts will be migrated

Summary

  • Export from your old manager to CSV
  • Import into AmnPass
  • Delete the export file immediately
  • Review and clean up your passwords
  • Disable browser password saving
  • Delete from old manager when ready
