How to Accept a Shared Item

Someone shared a password with you? Here's how to accept the request and access it.

You'll Know When Someone Shares

When a workspace member shares an item with you, you'll be notified in two ways:

  • Email: A message with the sender's name and an "Accept" button
  • In-app notification: A badge appears in your AmnPass dashboard

Must Be a Workspace Member

You can only receive share requests from members of workspaces you belong to. If you're not in the sender's workspace, you won't see the request.

Step-by-Step: Accepting a Share Request

Option 1: Accept from Email

  1. Open the notification email from AmnPass
  2. Click the "Accept Share Request" button
  3. You'll be taken to AmnPass (log in if needed)
  4. The item is now in your vault

Option 2: Accept from Dashboard

  1. Open AmnPass and check the notification icon
  2. Find the share request in your notifications
  3. Click "Accept" (or "Decline" if you don't want it)
  4. The item appears in your vault immediately

After Accepting

The shared item appears in your vault under the "Shared with me" section. You can view, copy, and use it just like your own items. If the sender updates it, you'll see the changes automatically.

Declining a Share Request

If you don't want the shared item:

  1. Click "Decline" instead of "Accept"
  2. The request is dismissed
  3. The sender may be notified (depending on settings)

The sender can share with you again if needed.

Finding Shared Items Later

After accepting, shared items live in your vault alongside your own items. To find them:

  • Look for the "shared" icon/badge on items
  • Filter by "Shared with me" if available
  • Use search to find by name

What You Can Do with Shared Items

  • ✓ View the password/data
  • ✓ Copy to clipboard
  • ✓ See updates when the owner changes it
  • ✗ Cannot edit (only the owner can)
  • ✗ Cannot re-share with others

If the Owner Revokes Access

The owner can revoke your access at any time. If this happens:

  • The item disappears from your vault
  • You can no longer decrypt or view it
  • Any cached copy becomes unreadable

Best Practice

Only accept share requests from people you recognize. If you receive an unexpected request, check with the sender before accepting.

Troubleshooting

Can't see the share request?

  • Check you're logged in with the correct email
  • Make sure you're in the right workspace (use the switcher)
  • Check your email spam folder
  • Ask the sender to verify they used the correct email

Accidentally declined?

Ask the sender to share the item with you again.
